Entry 1.2: Internet Research

The two sites that i chose are http://www.pantheon.org/articles/h/hades.html and http://www.theoi.com/khthonios/haides.html. These sites were useful for my research because they introduced me to a whole new side of hades that was unknown to me before. They explained Hades to me in a very simple manner, as if he were a real person with a bizarre supernatural background. Before researching Hades all i had known was that he was the lord of the underworld. now i am much more interested in his background and his family. Hades is known as the lord of the underworld but he is also the god of death and the dead that remain in the underworld. hades father Kronos devoured his children as they were born. Zeus, Hades brother, later had the Titan disgorge his siblings, including Hades. At this time Hades and his two brothers, Zeus and Poseidon, split the world into three sections of domain for themsleves. Hades recieved the underworld while Zeus and Poseidon took the upperworld and the sea as their domains. Hade demanded a wife and was given Persephone, the daughter of Demeter, but Demeter was unsatisfied to say the least so she threatened to destroy all of mankind unless if her daughter was returned to her. Persephone was then returned to her mother, but she did not return empty handed. Hades gave Persephone a powerful pomegranate and when she ate it Persephone was then forced to return to Hades for a portion of the years to come. Hades also possessed all the resources of the earth. He was a greedy god and he had all the riches of the earth. Overall, Hades isn't one of the more popular gods. In fact he wasn't liked by anyone. The people hardly spoke his name and turned their back when they presented him with the blood of black sheep as their sacrafice to him. The other gods hardly even spoke of him and tried to avoid Hades to their best abilities.
